Why Small Groups? This question is posed to me often and in different forms. Our reason is simple- we as a people were not meant to live life alone.
In Christian community, which is what church is really, we are connected together. Yet, many, many people, good people, attend church for years and never make a single friend. Oh sure, there are aquaintences, there are people who are familiar with one another. However, it is possible to live an entire church existence while not making a single friend.
I recently spoke with a person who has been a member of a church for more than 50 years. When I asked her how many friends she had made her answer was, "Well, I guess I have not made any since college." This is, unfortunately, reflective of many people's experience in God's community. It is time for a change. Small Groups then are the bridge over isolation into meaningful relationships. May no man, or woman, become an island unto themself.
At FCC we think that apart from you first having a relationship with Jesus, nothing is as important as forming authentic relationships with at least one other person in the church you attend. Small Groups are the vehicle we have chosen to help one-another "do-life together". Through accountable friendships with another we mature in our experiences in Christ.
If you attend FCC, and decide to join, Small Group involvement is a must for you to consider. You are unique, and created in the image of God. Joining your gifts and talents within a small group of believers will strengthen your faith and change the lives of those around you.
For these reasons we invite you to be a part of a small group. You are able to change and be changed by God working in your heart and through your hands.
Allow yourself a break in life. Feel the freedom of vulnerability and the power of knowing another. Take the risky leap of letting yourself be known.
Small Group connection brings hope of stepping from anonymity into interactivity. Call one of our leaders and find a group for you.
Sincerely,
Clayton Newman Small Group's Minister
